“On behalf of Rohingya Action Ireland, I would like to extend our condolences to Dr. Anita Schug, Dr. Ambia Perveen and Dr. Yasmin Haroon on the very sad passing of their mother, Jamila Begum. Mrs Begum has been witness to so many hardships and witness to the human rights abuses of the Rohingya. Jamila believed in the power of education and invested in the education of her daughters as the way forward for the Rohingya. Her legacy is with her daughters in their commitment to medicine, raising awareness of the horrendous human rights abuses of the Rohingya and advancing the empowerment of Rohingya women and girls. Her legacy will live on in her daughters and the essential work they are involved in, in medicine, and in promoting the rights of the Rohingya. May she rest in peace.” – Stephanie McDermott, Co-founder and Secretary, Rohingya Action Ireland
